Tokyo’s Out Of This World Experience: The Robot Restaurant

Traveling to Tokyo and looking for a unique experience? Well look no further than the Robot Restaurant located in the heart of Shinjuku’s red-light district.

I’d have to say this show is single handedly one of the most insane shows in all of Tokyo. Actually I take that back. It is single handedly one of the most insane shows in the world

The Robot Restaurant brings you in to an alternate reality filled with live music, giant robots, dancing ninjas, neon lights and so so much more! By the end of the show, you’ll be wondering to yourself, WHAT THE **** DID I JUST WATCH?

Now, I don’t want to give away too many details, because that will ruin all the fun. Nothing worse than a spoiler! So instead of walking you through my personal experience, I’d like to share some of my tips with you so you can experience this out of this world performance all for yourself. TRUST ME, YOU’LL THANK ME LATER!

1. JUST BOOK IT!

If you are anything like me, I’m sure you are doing a ton of research trying to squeeze as many things in to your itinerary as possible. And only having a limited time, you are trying to prioritize only the absolute best experiences to maximize your time.

Only having had 2 days to spend exploring the amazing, yet gigantic city of Tokyo, I must say this 90 minute experience is an absolute must.

Please do yourself a favor and find a way to work this in to your plans. You will not regret it. Unless you get migraines due to loud noises. LOL.

But for real, I highly recommend booking this show in advance because tickets will more than likely sell out. I’ve read online you can sometimes buy tickets on the spot so if your reading this article last minute, I say still go for it. You might be lucky and be able to secure a spot! But if you have some time to plan your trip, in my opinion, book it in advance as it is not worth risking missing out on this once in a lifetime experience.

Ticket prices start from $63.73.

Book your tickets here.

2. Don’t let the name fool you.

Although the name is Robot Restaurant, do not let the name fool you. The show is nothing short of entertainment but it definitely lacks in food. Instead of eating during your showtime, I highly recommend saving your appetite and exploring Shinjuku for a bite to eat.

During the show, you will be able to have some light snacks and plenty of fun drinks but you’ll definitely regret missing out on a night of authentic Japanese Sushi, Ramen or Soba.

3. Go Early

Even with your pre-purchased tickets you will need to go to a box office, right across the venue, to pick up physical tickets. The line is pretty outrageous since it is such a popular attraction but don’t worry, you will get in. If possible, I recommend going up to an hour early to skip the lines (the site recommends 40 min, but I’d go even earlier).

Once you pick up your physical ticket, you will be allowed to go explore the area or if you choose begin your alternate reality experience in the waiting room lounge. There, you will be able to find some seating while enjoying Japanese drinks/snacks.

4. No Professional Equipment

Take a break from your professional camera because you will not be able to use professional equipment. Thank god for that iPhone camera quality, am I right?!

5. How to get there?

You can take the metro train to Shinjuku Station. Once you get there take the East Exit and it is a less than 10 minute walk to the show. If you decide to rent a Pocket Wifi Router you can easily plug the Robot Restaurant in to Google Maps and it’ll bring you right there!
